Mexico City (Friends edition) - Day 6 (Lunch with friends)

On our last morning, Mark and I headed out for a run a bit before 8am. We wanted to run in Chapultepec park one last time... We got there, only to find out that it's closed on Mondays?! That was a bummer!

Good thing that Mexico City is very green, with many parks, trails and little park gyms, so we did that instead!

We came back, packed up, and said goodbye to our little home!

Being four people in this elevator is challenging enough without bags and suitcases...

We walked to a nearby hostel to drop off our luggage (since our flight was not until 11pm).

I didn't understand why some places' names are mirrored?

We walked around some, and stopped at a cafe (I think it was Casa Margarita in Roma Norte) for the world's most exquisite passionfruit cruffin. Oh goodness, I still dream about this...

As well as the non-live wires, I didn't understand why mexicans sweep the streets and sidewalks so much. Leaves are just going to keep falling from the trees! I guess they like to keep it clean-looking.

We stopped at the Mercade de Artesanias La Ciudadela for some souvenir shopping.

I got a little souvenir shot glass from a merchant, who was very chatty, and very proud to show me his baby axolotl that was hidden behind the cash register!

I saw these "bingo" cards, which reminded me of the game I won last time I was in Mexico with my parents...

We walked some more around the market, before meeting up with friends for lunch.

I tried to steal Sergio from Chio to marry him, but I was unsuccesful...

Sergio drove us back in his new car, but we were a bit squished back there...

We took an overnight flight, but none of us slept on the way home. We were all pretty tired, getting home early in the morning...

It was overall a wonderful trip! Great friends, perfect weather, perfect length. Highly recommend!

Mexico City (Friends edition) - Day 5 (Muevete en Bici & Lucha Libre)

On Sundays, there's the Muevete en Bici activity in the city. Big arteries of the city are closed for cyclists, runners, skaters, etc. Even better, bikes are free to borrow! We got up early and took a cab to near the statue Angel de la Independencia, and got some bikes!

We went pretty much all the way to Plaza Garibaldi and turned around and came back to the Angel de la Independencia statue. That was about 50 minutes of biking and Viv and Bab were tired, so they returned their bikes and went to a cafe while Mark and I went the other way, all the way to the Auditorio Nacional and back (another 40 minutes of biking).

We came back, dropped off our bikes and had a little horchata in a cafe while Viv and Bab walked over to us.

We then headed over to Biblioteca Vasconcelos, a renowned public library often called a "cathedral of books".

No wonder it's so big - their books are so outdated!!

On the way back, we stopped at the Mercade Martinez de la Torre for some lunch.

And a mamey for Viv!

One thing that surprised us: hanging of wires from the power lines. Apparently, they're not live or dangerous, but still... we didn't dare touch them!

We made it back to the apartment to relax a bit before dinner. Some were more pooped than others!

We had 5pm tickets for the Lucha libre, so we took a cab over and navigated the tight crowds!

The show was great, but we left about 90-120 minutes in. Viv was falling asleep in her seat!

We ended our evening over at El Califa for some yummy tacos and michelada!
